HOW DOES CANTER HELP HORSES?

CANTER New England volunteers are passionate about helping ensure that retiring Thoroughbreds in New England has the best possible chance for a safe, happy and healthy life after their racing days are over.

Nationwide approximately 35,000 foals are registered each year with the Jockey Club. While many of these horses never end up on the backside and won’t hit the starting gate, it’s an enormous challenge to help the many, many horses needing to retire from the racing industry–even at modest venues like Suffolk Downs.

By providing exposure for horses on the backstretch, we offer horse enthusiasts an insight into that pool of horses needing to move on from racing into a second career.

CANTER volunteers are not salaried, nor are we brokers. We are an informational resource seeking to connect horses with good homes.
